Volleyball Canada Serves Up Sustainability With Fill it Forward

Client Success Story: Volleyball Canada

Volleyball Canada inspired thousands of youth attending the national championships to travel with a reusable bottle and minimize their environmental impact.

Athletes from coast to coast competed against each other for the title, while also working together for a better planet. During the sporting event, every team helped to do their part to eliminate single-use plastic bottles.

In partnership with Explore Edmonton, athletes were given custom Fill it Forward Tags that could be placed on any size water bottle. Individuals then use their phones and the Fill it Forward app to track the positive environmental footprint.

Two main water refill stations were available to everyone and large banners helped to encourage participation. To make a bigger impact, every time someone refilled at the event a $1 donation was unlocked to charity WaterFirst.

Melissa Radu, Director of Social and Environmental Sustainability at Explore Edmonton, shares the importance of sustainable event planning and working together with the athletes, event organizers, and Expo Centre to make a difference.
