Across global operations, Bloomberg employees dispose of thousands of cups each day. This is something the company hopes to change over time, recognizing that this begins with individual action. To help encourage reuse and reduce its waste, Bloomberg launched Fill it Forward’s program in more than 40 offices around the globe.

UVA Dining is a Green Foodservice Trailblazer
In a bid to help decrease the amount of single-use items sent to the landfill, the University of Virginia Dining (operated by Aramark) was one of the first foodservice partners in the US to track the impact of reusable cups, bottles, and food containers.
Participation quickly grew from one location to a cross campus movement, which rewarded students for remembering and tracking their reuse. This initiative helped to educate students while having a direct impact on waste management by keeping the campus green.


UVA Dining received the Trailblazer Award for diverting more than 25,000 single-use cups.

Our Beyond the Bag journey began in early 2020 when we joined Closed Loop Partners’ Consortium to Reinvent the Retail Bag. Collaborating with Walmart, CVS Health, Target, and other major retailers, we helped to lead industry-wide change around alternatives to the traditional plastic bag.
We learned that Fill it Forward had a positive halo effect on the retail brand, and shoppers were excited to learn how easy it was to give back to the environment and local charities.
