Group Challenges: Engage Your Community With Reuse

Looking for a fun, impactful way to bring your community together while promoting sustainability? A Fill it Forward Group Challenge is the perfect solution. Whether you’re looking to build team spirit at work, boost participation at an event, or engage students on campus, this feature makes it easy—and exciting—to inspire reuse.
What is a Group Challenge?
A Group Challenge is an exciting way for your organization to compete in teams or individually based on the number of reuses (scans) achieved. This feature encourages friendly competition while promoting sustainable habits—bringing people together in the process. Participants can track their efforts and make a positive environmental impact by reusing items, such as a bottle, bag, cup, or container.
The challenge is set up easily through the Member Portal, where administrators can manage the entire process. Moderators can name the challenge, choose team names, pick colors, and set a timeline for the friendly competition. This customization ensures that each challenge feels unique and aligned with the group’s identity.
To invite members, users can simply scan the QR code associated with the private group. Members will be prompted to join a team when a challenge is active. This setup is perfect for any group size, with no participant limit, so you can create small or large challenges as needed.
Who is Using it?
Organizations across industries are embracing group challenges to inspire meaningful participation and promote sustainability.
In the corporate world, companies like BRANDITO have used challenges to foster a sense of community across multiple office locations, especially during seasonal campaigns like their Fill it Forward summer challenge.
Organizations like Thomson Reuters have leveraged Group Challenges at their events to engage attendees in a meaningful way by providing accessible water stations and displaying a live reuse count.
Academic institutions, including Lafayette College, are also joining in—using group challenges to motivate students to build sustainable habits through team-based, friendly competition.

Why Does it Work?
Group challenges is more than a competition—it’s a movement. It taps into the power of collective action, turning everyday habits into real-world impact. Participants are more motivated to reuse when they can see their progress, contribute to a team, and support a shared mission.
Throughout the challenge, the Impact Board keeps momentum high with live updates. Displayed with your organization’s logo, this board showcases a real-time snapshot of total reuses, team participation, and current rankings, making it easy to celebrate progress throughout the challenge.
Once the challenge wraps up, the Result Snapshot gives everyone a clear view of the final outcomes. Whether it’s by team or on an individual leaderboard, the rankings create an exciting finale and a strong sense of accomplishment for everyone involved
