Engaging students across campus
Client Success Story: Academic Partners
Over the past ten years Fill it Forward has worked closely with 100+ colleges and universities across North America to inspire reuse.
The impact we’ve made together is thanks to our partners at NODA, FYE, AASHE, and NACUFS. Through their support and partnership, we’ve engaged with thousands of students. Our team has collaborated with leaders from every corner of campus, who care about making a difference and are constantly looking for ways to increase and track engagement.
While each of these membership-based organizations have unique missions, sustainability has naturally become an important part of their core values. Here is a bit more about who they are and how they help:
- Association for Orientation Transition Retention in Higher Education brings together professionals, faculty, students, and other constituents interested in the orientation, transition, and retention of college students.
- National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition provides educators with an environment to share innovative ideas, programs, tools, and research critical to the learning, development, and success of first-year college students.
- The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability empowers higher education faculty, administrators, staff, and students to be effective change agents and drivers of sustainability innovation.
- National Association of College and University Food Services is the professional resource for collegiate leaders elevating dining and transforming the campus community experience.
Throughout the year we are always learning from our partners about best practices, gaining insights on what is happening on campus, and identifying how we can create solutions that are both scalable and impactful. Many of our best improvements to the Fill it Forward experience are the result of working together with academic leaders who find creative ways to leverage our reusable products and app experience.
“A hands-on learning tool [that] has helped us educate our students on plastic waste reduction in a fun interactive manner.“
— Jamie Adams, SUNY Oswego
Fill it Forward enhanced app features are designed to engage students, staff, and faculty around shared goals. Our reusable bottles, cups, bags, and Tags are often included as swag/orientation giveaways for first-year students, used to help launch cross-campus sustainability campaigns, and can now be integrated as a food service rental program (launching Fall 2022).
For every thousand reusable Cupanion Bottles distributed, we are making a huge impact! Check out the chart to see the environmental impacts when these are reused at least 5 times.
We believe that helping to promote sustainability and generosity on campus lays a foundation for building long-term habits off-campus. By empowering the next generation of change-makers through the simple act of reuse, students will continue to Fill it Forward to make a lasting impact on people and the planet.
