Thomson Reuters: Turning CSR Moments into Meaningful Impact
When Thomson Reuters brings Fill it Forward to their events, the goal is powerful: make sustainability visible, engaging, and meaningful from the first moment attendees arrive. Thomson Reuters weaves reuse directly into the event experience, creating moments of impact attendees can easily participate in and remember.
From Check-In to Collective Impact
Reusable bottles are distributed near registration, ensuring attendees start the day with sustainability in hand. On-site videos quickly explain how the program works, making it easy for first-time participants to scan, track impact, and get involved within minutes—without disrupting the flow of the event.
Throughout the venue, the live Impact Board reinforces that experience. Displayed near the Fill it Forward booth, it brings scans, unlocked donations, and environmental impact to life in real time. Watching the numbers grow sparks curiosity, conversation, and repeat engagement—turning everyday reuses into a shared, interactive experience that stays top of mind all day long.
“Bringing Fill it Forward to our events allows us to make sustainability an active part of the attendee experience from the moment they arrive. It’s not just about giving out a reusable bottle—it’s about creating moments where attendees can see the impact of their actions in real time. The scanning, the Impact Board, and the friendly challenges all spark conversation and engagement, and it’s incredible to see attendees continue scanning their bottles long after the event ends. It’s proof that when we make doing good easy and visible, participation becomes a habit, and a meaningful one at that.”

A Powerful Start with Purpose-Driven Giving
Thomson Reuters first introduced Fill it Forward at Synergy in November 2024, and the timing made the impact especially meaningful. In the wake of devastating hurricanes in the Orlando area, the event featured a custom giving project supporting Wine To Water’s hurricane relief efforts—connecting everyday reuse with urgent, real-world needs.
From the start, attendees were invited into the story. The Thomson Reuters and Fill it Forward teams shared a clear and compelling message: every time an attendee scanned the Fill it Forward Tag on their reusable water bottle or sticker, they would unlock a donation toward relief efforts. This simple action transformed reusing into an opportunity to help communities recover.
The response was immediate and enthusiastic. More than 6,000 scans were recorded on site during the event itself, as attendees actively scanned to learn about the giving project and track their personal impact. Long after the event wrapped up, engagement continued. To date, that private group has surpassed 10,000 total scans, with impact still growing well beyond the show floor. Seeing donations unlocked in real time made the experience feel tangible, empowering, and deeply personal.
Sustaining Momentum with Purpose and Fun
That same sense of purpose carried into another Thomson Reuters event in January 2025, where the organization partnered with the LA Regional Food Bank to support wildfire relief efforts in California. Once again, reuse moments became a way for attendees to contribute to communities facing real challenges.
This time, Thomson Reuters added an extra layer of engagement: a friendly scanning and reuse challenge between attendee groups. With the Impact Board displayed live on site, participants could watch progress unfold in real time—sparking friendly competition, repeat visits to the board, and plenty of “where are we at now?” check-ins throughout the day.
The challenge transformed impact tracking into a shared experience. Attendees weren’t just scanning for themselves; they were scanning for their team, celebrating milestones together, and staying engaged throughout the event as the numbers climbed.
A Reusable Bottle Attendees Love and Keep Using
One of the clearest indicators of success is what happens after the event ends. At every Thomson Reuters event Fill it Forward attends, attendees share that they’re still scanning their bottle from previous events—sometimes months or years later.
On site, posters placed next to water refill stations encourage attendees to stay hydrated, reuse often, and scan throughout the day. These simple visual cues prompt donations and allow attendees to check in on collective impact in real time, keeping participation easy and top of mind.
Adding another layer of memorability, Thomson Reuters’ design team creates custom stickers inspired by each event location. For example, a Florida-based event featured playful designs such as sea turtles, astronauts, crocodiles, and oranges—turning each refill into a small moment of local pride and helping bottles feel personal long after the event ends.
Why This Partnership Works
The reason Fill it Forward continues to show up at Thomson Reuters events is simple: the program fits naturally into how Thomson Reuters designs the attendee experience.
By ensuring water is readily available, placing posters thoughtfully, and pairing reuse with real-time impact and storytelling, Thomson Reuters creates an environment where doing good feels effortless and rewarding. Attendees don’t have to go out of their way to participate because the experience invites them in at every step.
In 2025, this commitment was recognized when Thomson Reuters was named a Fill it Forward Changemaker for Corporate Social Responsibility. The award honors organizations that prioritize sustainability by aligning business practices with strong ethical and socially responsible values. By embedding these principles into their event strategy.
From disaster relief efforts to friendly competition, from first-time scans to habits that last long after the event, this partnership shows what’s possible when reuse is done right. It doesn’t just reduce waste—it creates connection, sparks conversation, and turns everyday actions into lasting impact.
